about
I am a painter, ceramic artist, and ink maker based in Stroud, UK. Much of my work is inspired by observing natural forms and the behaviour of plants, animals and fungi. I work closely with my dreams through a long-term practice of dream documentation, analysis and automatic drawings. I am particularly interested in the surreal and mysterious nature of images and symbols that can emerge from the unconscious mind. I explore ecological processes and the materialities of places through my work by transforming seasons and moments in time into inks and pigments and glazes. I create ceramics using porcelain and clays gathered from the regions around my home in Gloucestershire. I am the founding member of the arts collective TUMP, who use a range of art mediums to playfully engage with and reimagine the burial chambers and megaliths of southwest of England. I am also one half of the band Don’t, and have been exploring making my own ceramic instruments. I studied 3D Design and material practise at Brighton University.
Collaborations
Tump
Tump is an art collective founded by artists Alex Merry, Flora Wallace and Milligan Beaumont, as a means of connection with the local landscape and of playful inquiry into the enigmatic megaliths of Gloucestershire and the South West.
Don’t
Don’t is a musical collaboration between cosmo sheldrake and myself . It began in February 2020 when we challenged ourselves to make a piece of music and a music video in two days. This resulted in our first single “Did”, which was shortly followed by “Did Don’t Do”. Cosmo and I usually begin our creative process by playing sonic games, for example perpetual improvisatory singing and going on sound collecting walks with sensitive microphones. The music of Don’t incorporates our discoveries.
